How do the Kid & Adult Results Compare

Kids Voting Durham 2023 voters — many of whom will be adult voters next time we have a City Council election — agreed with Durham’s adult voter choices in some cases but had some different ideas about who should be Durham’s new City Council members. Youth voters affirmed adult voters’ election of Leo Williams for Mayor, giving an even higher percentage of their votes to him than adults did. For City Council, like adults, selected Nate Baker as Durham’s newest Council member. But, youth voter’s top choice for City Council was Shelia Huggins — despite her suspension of her campaign earlier in October and her being the lowest vote getter in the adult election. Finally, youth voters chose Khalilah Karim for the third open Council seat over Javiera Caballero, who adults elected to a 3rd term.
