Kids Voting Durham is a non-partisan effort to help youth under 18 understand and believe in the power they have as engaged citizens and informed voters.

Kids Voting Durham builds civic skills, knowledge, and agency & identity in Durham’s young people well before they turn 18. We nurture each of these elements through:

Educational Tools

KVD creates inclusive, hands-on lessons and activities for all ages & levels that are relevant to young people’s lives
Family Engagement

KVD provides parents & caregivers ways to make civic participation a family affair
Youth Voice

KVD offers youth and decision-makers the opportunity to interact with each other in ways that reinforce young people’s identity as powerful civic participants
Authentic Elections

Every election, youth under 18 can cast a ballot on the same candidates and issues as adults.

In honor of Dr. King, Langston Hughes and all those — past and present — have dared to dream of a more just and equitable world, Kids Voting Durham invites you to share your dream for our community to be in included in the poem. It’s simple: submit your dream for our Durham community by Friday, January 17, and Kids Voting will weave your dreams into a collective poem celebrating our hope for Durham and its dreamers. Visit kidsvotingdurham.org on Monday, January 20 to see the finished poem and be inspired by the dreams of our community!
