2023 MLK Community Poem: We Dream a Durham

Thank you to everyone — ages 5 to 69 — who helped contribute a dream for our 2023 Community Poem in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Day. Special thanks to Dinora, Shriya, Aissata, Brayan, Carolyn, Angie, Shirley, Karstyn, and Audrey, as well as all the anoymous contributors.

In Durham, together, we dream

que los vecinos compartieran mas con los demas vecinos,

that everyone is able to be happy, supported

Where we stop stop violence & hurting families,

and kids have life

We dream a community where we have

technology that everyone can access,

more modern buildings,

resources to help homeless people to have their own homes.

We dream a nation where

People care about the health and welfare of others,

We work towards equity in all opportunities,

Everyone enjoys who they are and where they live,

We dream a world where

Everyone is kind and able to share their thoughts.

Our differences no longer constrain our progress.

We all live in peace together

Nosotros tenemos un sueño que

youth voices are valued and included,

everyone has an income that sustains them,

housing is affordable for all

and everyone has a home,

tenga una ciudad grande .

we need to make a better world
